I know that your fingers will hurt when first start playing guitar. I am not so sure if I could take it. How bad does it really hurt?
Yes, the tips of your fingers and wrist will feel sore as a beginner as you are trying to build up strength to play different chord positions. But don't worry, it is not that bad that you can't carry out your daily activities. A couple weeks of consistent practices, you will start to get used to it. As a start, you may consider to start playing on a nylon-stringed guitar which helps to lessen the discomfort. Or buying a quality guitar helps too, as the strings' action (distance between the strings and fretboard) is narrower hence, less pressure is needed.
Is it better to learn on electric guitar or acoustic guitar?
If you are more into just being able to play (pluck & strum) a song, singing along, then you are suited to learn acoustic guitar. However, if you want to learn how to play solo-lines and “rock-out,” then electric guitar is for you. Another way to look at it is the cost. You would definitely find it cheaper to learn on acoustic guitar because all you need to buy is just the guitar. If you learn electric guitar, you will need to acquire not only the guitar, but an amp, cables, effects, etc. Starting on acoustic guitar first would also provides you a good groundwork to move into electric guitar later on.
Will I be learning how to read musical scores (a.k.a. 5-lines score) and play according to them?Absolutely not. Here, we do not emphasise on reading scores (5-lines), instead we focus on chord-readings which is much more fun & achievable for adult-learners. You will learn the seemingly technical stuffs in clear-categorized concepts and we’ll guide you to apply them in pop songs. This has proven to work very well with adults learners as you will feel much more motivated!
